The Balwin County Corrections Center, formerly known as the County Jail, has been located on the same property in Bay Minette for 200 years. Since 1970 the facility has been incrementally enlarged to the point today where approximately 700 inmates can be housed there. The Corrections Command is organized along military lines using a rank structure and formal lines of command and supervision. A rank structure from Private First Class to Captain is well established and persons in command are readily identifiable. The command is separated into the following divisions: Operations Division, Support Services Division, Inmate Management and the Medical Services Unit.
