The Monroe County Detention Facility is located at 200 South Main Street in Clarendon, Arkansas.
The building of the current facility started in 1987 and was finished in 1988. The "Old Jail", as we like to call it, is located behind the current jail. In July of 1988 the inmates being housed in the "Old Jail" were moved to the new facility when the businesses across from it burned and smoke was getting in the jail.
The Detention Facility houses both adult male and female inmates. It is a long term facility with a capacity of 40 inmates. All persons who are arrested and taken into custody are transported to the Detention Facility for booking and incarceration. The Detention Facility holds pre-trial detainees and post-conviction inmates who are serving sentences or awaiting transport to Arkansas Department of Correction.
