The Saline County Detention Center was opened on January 7, 2007. The facility went from holding 50 inmates, which was located underneath the Saline County Court House, to a facility that holds 234 inmates. The new building also has the capability to have additional sections added on to hold more inmates in the future. The Saline County Detention Center has a total of 46 employees. These employees are led by a Lieutenant, Administrative Sergeant, Training Sergeant, and Transport Sergeant. Each Detention Shift has a Corporal and six Detention Officers. The transport Division is made up of one Corporal and three Transport Officers. There is also at the facility, 2 Kitchen Managers, 1 Infirmary Officers, and 2 Booking Coordinators. All personnel attend Jail Standards Training Class, ACIC Classes, and any other classes necessary for training purposes. The Saline County Detention Center has a "trustee" and "309" program. The trustee program allows non-violent misdemeanor offenders to work either inside the jail, assigned to kitchen or cleaning duties, or outside the jail assigned to work with the road crew or maintenance department.
