The Izard County Detention Facility and Dispatch Center located at 300 Circle Dr in Melbourne is a state of the art facility built in 2003. The operations of these two entities are under the supervision of Jail and Dispatch Administrator Mindy Jones. The Izard County Sheriff's Department and the Izard County District Clerk are also located within the facility. The Detention Center is a long-term lockup facility with a capacity of 34 inmates and four state 309 inmates. The operation has historically received excellent ratings from the State of Arkansas Criminal Detention Facilities Review Board as one of the best-managed facilities in the state. Inmates are separated by male or female and violent or nonviolent offenders. Inmates that are arrested are brought to the detention center where they are held until they can post a bond or until they are sentenced. Inmates sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Correction are held at the facility until bedding space is available at the Department of Correction Intake facility.
