The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department manages five correctional facilities within Riverside County. Not only is it one of the largest jail systems in the state, but in the country as well. With a unique set of rules, regulations and restrictions strictly enforced in order to ensure safety to visitors, corrections staff and Riverside County inmates. Riverside County Jail inmates are housed at one of five jails: Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Detention Center, Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, Indio Jail or Blythe Jail. Among the jails in Riverside County is the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility-- the largest correctional facility in the county. The Southwest Detention Center serves the southwest portion of Riverside County; whereas, the Indio Jail serves the City of Indio. The oldest facility built in 1964 is the Blythe Jail, which is administered under the direction of the Captain and Corrections Division Chief.
