about

Court Security Officers maintain security and order for those courts held in County facilities. These include Family Court, County Court, Supreme Court and Surrogate Courts, as well as all Grand Jury proceedings. Security personnel scan all persons entering any court area, using a walk through metal detector at two locations and hand held metal detectors at all other facilities. Security ensures the safety of Judges, Attorneys, Plaintiffs, Defendants, Witnesses, Court personnel and any others present in court. Court Security Officers determine that all parties to an action are present and call the cases. They check the courtrooms prior to the daily activities to make sure the area is safe, and secure the area again when court is through. Court Officers assist the Judges with various tasks and during jury trials; they assist the jury when required. There are presently five Deputies under the direct supervision of Sergeant assigned to the Court Security Division.
