The Cherokee County Detention Center was opened in October of 1996 and renovated in 2004. The facility has a capacity of 114, housing both male and female adult inmates for the county, local police in the county, and for the US Marshal Service. The facility currently has a total of 20 employees, consisting of a Chief of Corrections, 4 Shift Lieutenant's, 2 Cooks, and 13 shift Corrections Officers. All officers are required to attend and 80 hr. APOST approved Jail Management School, Taser and O.C. certification, CPR and First Aid, Draeger Breath Analyzer training, and PPCT/SSGT self defense training.
